Hump Day Transits 3/29/23 – 4/4/23

Features of this week: revelations around the sensual, normally counterproductive aggression given direction, thoughts and conversations become focused on the actual and practical. All of this is preamble to a big full moon next Wednesday. Let’s talk through that build-up.

Let’s start with today. Thoughts may yet buzz with the potential of dynamic growth, healing, and self-empowerment as Mercury is only just separating from its conjunction with Jupiter and Chiron. Yet there may be some emotional discomfort around this, either with actualizing plans or with aspersions cast by others, as the Moon casts a disillusioning square against this line of thinking, pulling us back to comfortable homeostasis.

Mars has just freshly changed signs to Cancer, where it is classically thought to be weakest. What’s more, and what I have certainly been feeling, is that some may have trouble finding their hitlist bearings with Mars changing signs after such a lengthy stay in Gemini. (Mars was in Gemini for around 5 months, where he usually changes signs every two months.) The combination of sign change and weak placement may have some feeling out of rhythm with their motivations, the gut trailing behind the head in a detrimental way. Mars in Cancer is said to be a tough placement in part because of its tendency to bottle up frustration until it explodes. But there’s help! Today is Mars’ exact trine with Saturn, and Saturn is a stabilizing force on Mars’ potential volatility. Some might say this could make the repression all the worse, and while that potential is there, the nature of this relationship suggests that Saturn will offer avenues by which to consciously direct aggression, to pour the hot lava into ready-made molds where it may cool and harden. Then again, the South Node is also involved by trine, a point of disintegration, and so it may be that the lava is simply directed into a bottomless pit. This would resemble something along the lines of wailing on a heavy bag more than building something meant to last. Your mileage may vary.

Mars trine Saturn is one of the big headlines of the week. Another is the conjunction between Venus and Uranus, which is definitely in effect currently, and which becomes exact tomorrow, Thursday 3/30. Venus is in a place of strength in Taurus, her Spring home which focuses a little less on heady aesthetics and much more on simple comforts and sensory delights. Hers is an energy that connects, which creates connections to other people, to arts and culture, to food and drink, to what we like and love and lust after. Uranus, though, is a destabilizing force. This may augur sharp left turns in what we connect with. Here is a little from my recent Aries Season piece:

“Uranus’ influence may portend strange revelations around preferences and desires, and these bolts from the blue are generally irrevocable. That is to say, if truth bombs are dropped, it’s inadvisable to try to un-drop them, and I have met people who seem to have cracked their minds in the attempt. Uranus is also an expression of the primal Yang, the cosmic male force, and its influence on arguably the most feminine planet may leave some to contend with a very Yang feminine...this transit may reveal kinks, among other things, and is likely to highlight developments around the current (and absolutely ridiculous) debate around drag culture. This transit may also get some ladies pregnant.” Break-ups are also possible, though it feels like they’d be the type where someone realizes they’re being made to feel lesser by their partner and are finally taking back their power. Again, mileage may vary. The moon will be at the end of Cancer during the day, trine to Neptune and casting a dreamy mist over the day’s proceedings, which may make any Uranian surprises feel all the more surreal. By night, the Moon enters Leo, opposing Pluto and highlighting disparity between what we can accept and what we cannot.

On Friday and Saturday (3/31 and 4/1,) the Moon continues to make its way through Leo, supporting the self-empowering planets in Aries while conflicting with the more decadent and/or practical planets in Taurus, most notably the Venus-Uranus conjunction. Denial or anger around any recent shake-ups may follow. The moon’s square to the Venus-Taurus conjunction is likely to trigger realizations that were percolating, not quite ready to serve during the exact conjunction.

While all of this is going on, the Sun creeps closer to exact conjunction with Jupiter and Chiron, though by now, they are firmly under his beams. He’ll catch up to Chiron first, an aspect which may trigger self-doubt and mortification, though which may also offer healing insights. Jupiter’s presence may engender inspiration, wisdom, and true growth. These themes will be central to the Full Moon in Libra on Wednesday.

On Sunday (4/2) the Moon in Virgo opposes Saturn in Pisces, trining the North Node. Those interested invested in craft or maintenance may run up against natural obstacles, like trying to build an enduring structure on a bog. Meanwhile, Mercury lingers on the last degrees of Aries, potentially drying up our stores of brain-juice.

Then on Monday 4/3, Mercury enters Taurus. “…Mercury is neither strong nor weak here, it’s just not his home court. Mercury generally prefers to go where he pleases and speak with who he pleases. And it’s not that he cannot do that in Taurus, it’s just that the Bull’s fields generally bring localized concerns and an apathy for what is outside their scope. There is a hyper-focus on what is real, practical, what has utility, and the abstract is of little concern.” And while I normally find this flavor of Mercury to be a little more dull or unimaginative, this is going to be a dynamic entry: “Upon entry into Taurus, Mercury will immediately trigger a contentious square with Pluto. Arguments around the practicality of pie-in-the sky ideas seems likely, the benefit of certain experiments. Just because you can do it doesn’t mean you should.” Not only will he square Pluto, he’ll be conjunct the North Node, and sextile to both Saturn in Pisces and Mars in Cancer. The combination of forces is one that seeks to actualize a plan, which can think through a blueprint and turn it into a structure that works.

The moon moves through Virgo on Monday and Tuesday (4/4,) engaging for a final time with the waning Venus-Uranus conjunction, perhaps paving the way for acceptance of whatever has been brought forward. She will then oppose Neptune on Tuesday, an unhelpful brain-fog or a seemingly endless parade of distractions calling us away from the task at hand.

Wednesday is the Full Moon in Libra, which we will cover next time, and which I have already written about some in my monthly.

Until next Hump Day!

Hump Day Transits 3/22/23 – 3/28/23

We begin the week in the wake of both the Vernal Equinox and a New moon in Aries, spiriting in a new resolve to own our story and make of it what we’re able. But there are a couple more players set to take the stage, as both Pluto and Mars will be entering new signs this week, severely changing the mood with their own sets of challenges and demands.

The moon continues its course through Aries today, joining the Jupiter-Chiron conjunction in an effort to rise above past setbacks, defeats, and traumas. Jupiter and the Moon together in Aries both soothe us and cheer us on, a reassuring rally cap on our efforts. It’s a sample of the better parts of this solar month.

Then on Thursday 3/23, Pluto makes it momentous entrance into Aquarius. The following day, Friday 3/24, Mars will enter Cancer. These transits were reported on extensively in my Aries Season piece, but I will repost those sections below:

“Pluto enters Aquarius on 3/23. A huge deal!…and also not. A huge deal because Pluto takes roughly 12-30 years to change signs – huge variations due to his irregular orbit, but he’s always in a given sign for a generational-marker’s amount of time. Not a huge deal, because this is only an advanced preview: Pluto is going to go retrograde and will be back in Capricorn by early June, the sign it has occupied since 2008. He will not properly return to Aquarius for his true stay until early February on 2024. But! We’ve certainly got him for Aries Season, so let’s discuss some implications. Pluto represents what is obscured, hiding under the surface, whether because it is waiting to be discovered or because someone swept it under the rug. As such, Pluto often shows where power has accumulated, and where corruption is rife. Pluto may show us where the ‘bad guy’ is, and his stay in Saturn-ruled, earthy and acquisitive Capricorn certainly shed light on the harm that corporate greed does to mankind and to the planet.

Aquarius is also Saturn-ruled, so systemic issues are likely to still be under the microscope. But because Aquarius is more cerebral and conceptual, so too are the powers that are being questioned. One can certainly imagine a luddite revival in the wake of all of this powerful AI, as well as the potential devastation wrought by other forms of technology; for example, many have been wary of the latent SNAFU that deep fakes may engender; if self-driving cars become a reality, many industries will suffer and unemployment levels will rise; one imagines some sort of reckoning in store for crypto culture, which does not seem to be going away, but whose market volatility keeps its place in financial society dubious; likewise, conversations around UBI may reemerge, with many questioning why work even still need be a thing; on perhaps the grimmest note, Taiwan’s importance as a leading manufacturer of the world’s microchips may pull others into efforts to save it from China’s military designs. In the immediate, the recent shake-up in the banking world, with three of the world’s major banks basically failing, will likely lead to some kind of sweeping reform after the Pluto ingress. Or perhaps, unrest around inaction on this matter. I’m not staking anything on it, just a hunch.

Meanwhile, Mars finally leaves Gemini and makes its ingress into Cancer on 3/25. While I’ve never been the biggest fan of Mars in Cancer, the sign where it classically is said to perform most poorly, it is sort of a nice change of pace. Mars has been in Gemini for an uncharacteristically long amount of time. Where he usually spends a couple of months in a sign, he has lived in Mercury’s house since late October due to a long retrograde period which took us into 2023

Anyway. In Cancer, Mars has a lunar tendency to absorb, but that often means absorption of abuse until a breaking point is reached, usually then unloading on those he feels comfortable with, which usually means the wrong person. There’s also a greater than normal tendency here to get frustrated and emotional in the course of problem-solving. It’s not all bad, though. The watery placement leads to more intuitive understanding and creative solutions at times. What’s more, early in his time in Cancer, Mars will make trines to Saturn and the South Node. Saturn’s influence is likely to yield greater focus and boundaries, while the South Node will help to discard anything that does not fit into the battle plan. The three also create what is known as a Grand Water Trine, meaning there will be a general abundance of that martially-oriented water in the skies. Mars will begin to outpace these friends in mid-April, where a square with Chiron may begin to pick at the layers of frustration around failings and insecurities, hopefully leading to therapeutic results.”

Thursday 3/23 and Friday 3/24 also bring us the moon’s movement through Taurus, where she will not only highlight Venus’ new position of strength, but also create a connection between she and Uranus by passing between them. This is a preview of their upcoming conjunction, which can start to be felt here and will become exact next week, on 3/30. Sudden cravings and changes in preference are likely, pleasant surprises, possibly some shocking and unnerving new connections. More on the conjunction next week.

Another key feature of the week is Mercury’s swift approach toward the Jupiter-Chiron conjunction in Aries.

“Mercury is running from Sun’s beams, and while thoughts and words may be taking on a more certain and assertive air, they may still end up muddled or overshadowed in the first days of the solar month. By 3/26, he will first catch up to Chiron, and then to Jupiter the following day – though it’s sort of the same difference, with Jupiter and Chiron being so closely conjunct. Consequently, while this does bring thoughts to insecurities and wounds, it also helps us reason around their resolution, and Jupiter’s influence may elevate and amplify messages received, lessons learned sinking in quite deeply.”

This may be a great help to those studying or otherwise seeking knowledge, to public speakers, to administrators or test takers, possibly to retailers, anyone looking to dare big and reap the rewards of Mercury’s realm. The moon’s movement through Gemini during the weekend should support this.

The moon will then enter Cacner and pass over Mars on Tuesday 3/28, highlighting the new positioning of our sterner planets, who may call for us to stay composed, get to work, and throw whatever does not belong into the trash. Another element of the Mars-Saturn trine may be finding outlets for emotional overflow, especially where aggression is concerned. That sort of thing can stagnate and drag down health. Better out than in.

Until next Hump Day!

Aries Season 2023

Happy Vernal Equinox! It’s New Year’s Day in Astrology Land, as the Sun’s entree into Aries brings with it a fiery vibrancy. And this time, he’s had his welcome banquet set by some fresh planetary ingresses which preceded this seasonal marker, with a couple more major arrivals yet to come in the solar month. Let’s review…

Mercury has entered Aries, currently subsumed by the Sun’s light. In Aries, conversation can easily accelerate into spirited debate, deliberation can give way to war room strategies. It’s a bright, focused burst of brain-juice, welcome after Mercury’s languid float down Pisces’ currents. The only problem is his proximity to the Sun, as planets that are too close are said to be swallowed up by his light. Mercury may still feel relatively debilitated until he gets over ten degrees or more from the Sun, sometime after 3/26. Traditional doctrine says 17 degrees is still within the Sun’s clutches, but he’ll get healthier the further away he gets, and he’ll be running right into Jupiter’s arms. More on that later.

Venus has entered Taurus, one of her seats of sensual strength. As mentioned in last week’s Hump Day write-up, “Things are a little different this time though, as Venus will immediately make a conjunction to both Juno and the North Node upon entering her domicile. Juno is an asteroid associated with commitment, and it may be that some of the delights we wish to partake in require us to meet certain conditions. The North Node, meanwhile, is a point of manifestation, a horn of plenty, but some say that its gifts are poisoned by delusion and dependency when taken too far.”

Lastly, Saturn has entered Pisces. Much has been written about that already, and it was a centerpiece of last month’s Pisces Season piece, but given that it will be with us for some time, it still feels quite fresh. For our purposes here, I’ll briefly say that among its many meanings, boundaries and order are likely to be implemented differently, for different purposes, around different subjects. This may apply to more idealistic matters, aligning with Jupiter’s rulership, and may literally have to do with water and the natural world. Here’s hoping for some progress on climate regulation. Emotional and experiential boundaries are similarly centered on the table. Over the course of this solar month, Saturn will cozy up to powerful fixed star, Fomalhaut, whose involvement may augment Saturn’s influence. This star is largely beneficial, so one hopes it will mollify some of the Great Malefic’s more severe qualities rather than make them heavier still.

Mars and Pluto are also about to enter new signs. But before anything significant can happen, we’re immediately treated to the New Moon in Aries on Tuesday 3/21.

From last week’s Hump Day write-up: “The Sun’s overflowing corona is focused into a laser here in Aries, a battering ram which can breach any fortress with a toothy grin and a bright personality. This is a brief summation of why the Sun performs optimally in this Mars-ruled sign. The astrological community puts a lot of fanfare on the Sun’s entry into Aries, for it begins the zodiacal year, and predictions for the year ahead often accompany the Aries Ingress chart. That a new moon coincides with this Aries ingress seems particularly significant, especially with the new moon’s rep as a ‘chapter beginning.’ We have here a unity of ego and id, of consciousness and emotional self, both in service of the hitlist of goals that lie before us. An odd thing about this lunation is that it doesn’t really make any aspects; the closest thing we have are conjunctions to Mercury and Neptune, an echo of the business that began this article. Mercury is still being overpowered by the Sun’s light. Since Mars rules the Sun in Aries, and Mercury rules Mars in Gemini, this may indicate that the upcoming year holds key knowledge that is hiding from us in plain sight. Neptune’s influence seems to cosign on this.

A couple of days later, Pluto enters Aquarius on 3/23. Pluto may show us where the “bad guy” is, and his stay in Saturn-ruled, earthy and acquisitive Capricorn certainly shed light on the harm that corporate greed does to mankind and to the planet.

Where he usually spends a couple of months in a sign, he has lived in Mercury’s house since late October due to a long retrograde period which took us into 2023.

Mars will begin to outpace these friends in mid-April, where a square with Chiron may begin to pick at the layers of frustration around failings and insecurities, hopefully leading to therapeutic results.

As discussed above, Venus is currently in her Springtime seat of power in Taurus, and hanging with Juno and the North Node, each of whom seem an easy match to her mission to connect and collect respectively. But Venus’ time in Taurus won’t be a total walk in the park, as she is fast approaching a conjunction to Uranus, the great destabilizer. Uranus’ influence may portend strange revelations around preferences and desires, and these bolts from the blue are generally irrevocable. That is to say, if truth bombs are dropped, it’s inadvisable to try to un-drop them, and I have met people who seem to have cracked their minds in the attempt. Uranus is also an expression of the primal Yang, the cosmic male force, and its influence on arguably the most feminine planet may leave some to contend with a very Yang feminine. The discourse around Uranus and queer culture can be a sensitive topic in the astrology community, with many taking umbrage to the implication that Uranus others or shows what is “weird.” That is understandable, but I do think this transit may reveal kinks, among other things, and is likely to highlight developments around the current (and absolutely ridiculous) debate around drag culture. This transit may also get some ladies pregnant.

As she reaches the end of Taurus, Venus will run into a few overtly dark presences. The first is Algol, who she will join on 4/7, and who is considered by many sources to be the most malevolent star in the sky. Algol represent’s Medusa’s severed head, and Venus’ conjunction with this mythical monster may whip up scorn and discontent around relationships, body autonomy, and other Venusian matters. Algol has more recently been connected with justice for victims who have been either blamed for their own plight or otherwise swept under the rug, and one wonders if we will see any movement or mass demonstration around abortion here, if not around Uranus’ conjunction.

Venus then enters Gemini on 4/11. She is neither strong nor weak in Gemini, more a creature of Water and Earth than Air, but not opposed to the pleasures that Mercury’s house can bring. This is a Venus with a lot of different looks and styles, a myriad of interests, an avid conversationalist and tea-spiller, a lover of games and diversions. My friends with this placement do not seem to have a physical type, though their matches fit a cerebral profile, bordering on sapio-sexual. Upon entry to Gemini, she will immediately trine Pluto and may find herself on the beneficial side of the powers that be. This may be a good time for AI art, or for some other kind of technological aid to Venus’ relam. She also will be on top of the fixed star Alcyone that day, It is difficult to say what this augurs, but this star (as the principal star of the Seven Sisters, The Pleiades,) is oft associated with blindness and with the loss of innocence. If I were to hazard a wild guess, I’d wonder if some breakthrough with vision correction would be associated with this transit.

Mercury is running from Sun’s beams, and while thoughts and words may be taking on a more certain and assertive air, they may still end up muddled or overshadowed in the first days of the solar month. By 3/26, he will first catch up to Chiron, and then to Jupiter the following day – though it’s sort of the same difference, with Jupiter and Chiron being so closely conjunct. Consequently, while this does bring thoughts to insecurities and wounds, it also helps us reason around their resolution, and Jupiter’s influence may elevate and amplify messages received, lessons learned sinking in quite deeply.

Shortly after, on 4/3, Mercury will enter Taurus. Like Venus in Gemini, Mercury is neither strong nor weak here, it’s just not his home court. Mercury generally prefers to go where he pleases and speak with who he pleases. And it’s not that he cannot do that in Taurus, it’s just that the Bull’s fields generally bring localized concerns and an apathy for what is outside their scope. There is a hyper-focus on what is real, practical, what has utility, and the abstract is of little concern. Still, it is a Venus-ruled Mercury and is up for a pleasant conversation. More importantly, because Mercury is in a Venus-ruled sign and Venus is in a Mercury-ruled sign, they are in a state known as mutual reception, where they will help and strengthen each other’s influence for the duration of their stays in these respective signs. As a reminder though, Mercury will be in Taurus a week before Venus enters Gemini, and this will not kick in until that happens.

Upon entry into Taurus, Mercury will immediately trigger a contentious square with Pluto. Arguments around the practicality of pie-in-the sky ideas seems likely, the benefit of certain experiments. Just because you can do it doesn’t mean you should. Mercury will eventually reach a conjunction with Uranus, the seeker laying eyes on the cache of truth bombs, but security will stop him at the hangar doors. The conjunction will not become partile, as he will station retrograde right before that can happen on 4/21. We entered the year on a Mercury Retrograde, and so we were due for another. More on that next month. (Spoiler alert: it’ll be fine.)

Just as Mercury did, the Sun will make his way to a conjunction with Jupiter and Chiron, bringing a focus and resolve to efforts at self-betterment, of faith, of healthy competition. This will be a prominent feature of the upcoming full moon – more in that in just a second. This conjunction gets tighter at the beginning of April and is exact with Chiron on 4/5, with Jupiter on 4/11. Other than a grating square with Mars in the first week of the solar month, which may bring a touch of tension, the Sun actual doesn’t see many other notable aspects. There’s a carefree freedom in this that seems appropriate to the season of renewal.

The Full Moon in Libra occurs on 4/5, with the Sun sandwiched right between Chiron and Jupiter. The Sun being with Jupiter uplifts, enriches and rolls out red carpets, an avenue for the grandiose. But Chiron’s effect of the Sun usually means a discomfort with self, and this combination of planetary influences is likely to create some mixture of ups and downs. There is potential for rousing success and crippling humiliation in the same breath, and it seems like the healthiest thing to do will be to treat any setbacks here as investments. “Eat bitter” is a phrase often uttered in the world of Kung Fu, the idea that losses and failures should be nourishing lessons. Given that Mars in Cancer rules this pile-up of planets in Aries, and has a reputation for being touchy, it may be difficult to remain emotionally composed and objective about such things, but Saturn’s trine to Mars may serve as a supporting wall with which to prop up one’s back up.

The Moon in Libra makes no major aspects here, but may be colored by Venus’ current condition. Venus is far enough from Uranus that its destructive influence should no longer be a factor. Instead, she is just becoming conjunct to Algol. That Venus on Algol rules this lunation is profound, and may add some heavy undertones to the Moon in Libra’s normally breezy nature. It feels like this combination of factors could lead some to an avoidant disposition on things that should not be avoided, that may not stay silent, and so it is best to try to dialogue with showy corners of self as though with a friend. If it’s a more tangible element that’s in question, an actual person or tough situation, it’s still probably best approached with a spirit of spitball problem-solving where possible. It is also worth mentioning that Venus will be applying to a tight sextile with Neptune, whose boundary-melting influence will be optional. On the negative side, this could lead to escapism and substance abuse. On the positive, this could lead to healing experiences through surreal adventure, through fantasy worlds in media, or even through limited and targeted use of psychedelics. Just because drugs are involved doesn’t mean it’s substance abuse, and intentional treatment with psychedelics is more like mental medicine than any sort of bender.

Both of the lights are enmeshed with factors that may make for potent and emotional lunation. One last feature of this full moon that should be mentioned is Mercury’s conjunction with the North Node, square to Pluto in Aquarius. As mentioned before, this seems like the type of thing that will begin to reveal what challenges and transformations Pluto in Aquarius is really bringing to our doorstep. Mercury in Taurus feels like commerce, especially when he’s with the North Node, a point of manifestation. So we have a conflict here, essentially, with those trying to navigate Capitalism and its commodities, and with whatever systemic and/or technological roadblocks Pluto is chucking in that lane. Conflicts around FinTech, banking reform, and crypto may be forthcoming here.

We actually get a bonus lunation in this Aries Season, an extra new moon. Only this one’s a Solar Eclipse, the first of the year. It will not be visible here in the States.

The eclipse takes place with the Sun and Moon at the anaretic degree of Aries, the last day of the solar month, when the Sun’s position in the last degree of the sign usually already leaves a deficit of vitality and mental focus. This may mean sluggishness with an exclamation mark. The darkening of the Sun occurs as it is conjunct Jupiter, and while there is some possibility that his influence will ameliorate some effects, it seems more likely that he gets pulled into the shadow and that spirits may find themselves lowered. While it occurs cross-sign, the Sun and Moon are technically square to Pluto by degree, and it is likely this eclipse underlines some of the more polarizing factors that Pluto in Aquarius will be bringing to this age. Issues which came up in the Mercury-Pluto square from the last lunation may recur, though this time it seems less about business and more about humanity, about personhood. A testimony to this: though it is also cross-sign, the Sun and Moon are most closely conjunct the asteroid Vesta, denoting that something sacred to identity may be at stake here. It makes me wonder if issues around the potential consciousness of AI may reemerge around here. Some say, by the way, that effects from a particular eclipse may take up to 6 months to manifest, so I won’t be holding my breath on that one. But it’ll be interesting to see what develops.

Another potential testimonial aspect to that area of interest: during this lunation, Mercury makes his conjunction to Uranus, raising the potential for explosive news and technological advancement. However, this is also a Mercury who is pumping the brakes, slowing down in preparation for his retrograde station which occurs a couple of days later. Perhaps something revelatory will need to be walked back or retooled, its impact less diminished than delayed, for Mercury will make another conjunction to Uranus at the beginning of June.

That’s all for this time. Some important transit dates are below. See you on Wednesday for my weekly!

3/20 – Vernal Equinox – the Sun enters Aries, Mercury is combust. Venus and the North Node are conjunct, along with Juno. Mars’ square to Neptune persists. Jupiter is sandwiched between Chiron and Ceres. Moon on Neptune.

3/21 – New Moon in Aries, description above.

3/22 – Moon with Jupiter-Chiron, stirring the pot of insecurities and self-improvement.

3/23 – Pluto moves into Aquarius, description above. Mars at anaretic degree of Gemini, perhaps taking the wind out of many a sail.

3/24 – Moon joins Venus and Uranus by passing in between them, a preview of their upcoming conjunction.

3/25 – Mars enters Cancer, trine Saturn in Pisces and the South Node in Scorpio – a Grand Water Trine.

3/26 – Mercury-Chiron exact conjunction.

3/27 – Mercury-Jupiter exact conjunction.

3/28 – The Moon passes over Mars in Cancer, emphasizing intuition and emotional response to adversity.

3/29 – Mars-Saturn trine is exact, a stabilizing influence on a potentially counter-productive animus.

3/30 – Venus-Uranus exact conjunction. Mercury exactly conjunct Vesta – an opportunity to hold space for private thoughts and reflections, or to communicate with someone special. The Moon enters Leo, opposing Pluto and highlighting disparity between what we can accept and what we cannot.

3/31 & 4/1 – The Moon makes its way through Leo, supporting the self-empowering planets in Aries while conflicting with the more decadent and/or practical planets in Taurus, most notably the Venus-Uranus conjunction. Perhaps denial or anger around any recent surprises or realizations.

4/2 – The Moon in Virgo opposes Saturn in Pisces, trining the North Node. Feels like those interested in craft and innovation running up against natural obstacles, like trying to build an enduring structure on a bog.

4/3 – Mercury enters Taurus, conjunct the North Node, exact square to Pluto in Aquarius, sextile to Saturn in Pisces and Mars in Cancer. The Moon now engages with Venus-Uranus in a healthier way, perhaps paving the way for acceptance of whatever has been brought forward.

4/5 – Full Moon in Libra. Sun exactly conjunct Chiron. Description above.

4/6 – Mercury exactly conjunct North Node.

4/7 – Venus on Algol. The Moon in Scorpio passes over the South Node, trining Saturn and opposing Mercury conjunct the North Node. A possible signal to scale back and let go of some habits that may be hurting more than helping, though the solutions may seem undesirable.

4/10 – Venus at anaretic degree of Taurus. Juno exactly conjunct Uranus in Taurus, perhaps imposing some surprising commitments, bringing together strange bedfellows and unlikely allies. The Moon in Sagittarius supports the Sun-Jupiter-Chiron conjunction, an encouraging force to any positive impulses brought up by the full moon.

4/11 – Sun-Jupiter conjunction is exact. Venus enters Gemini, conjunct the Pleiades, trine Pluto.

4/13 – Venus’ square to Saturn perfects, restricting and regulating her good time. The Moon on Pluto makes a trine to Venus, perhaps delivering some unfair advantage to her.

4/16 – Mercury is conjunct Uranus, but begins to slow. He will station retrograde before the conjunction is exact. Mars begins to make a square to Chiron.

4/19 – Sun at anaretic degree for the 2nd New Moon in Aries, which is also a Total Solar Eclipse.

Hump Day Transits, 3/15/23 – 3/21/23

Quite a lot going on this week! A reality-bending pile-up of planets at the end of Pisces may frustrate and befuddle, Venus enters one of her seats of power, Mercury steps into more assertive territory, and a new moon marks the beginning of Aries Season. Let’s delve deeper…

The Sun in Pisces has been edging closer to Neptune, while Mercury has been gaining on the Sun, and now they are all right on top of each other in a large conjunction. This is stellium has been building up for the past week or so, and its effects include communicative impairment, a permeation of the surreal, exaltation of the grandiose, porousness of identity, and the like. Neptune is the ocean of collective unconsciousness, where are the dream-stuff writhes under its dark currents, and the Sun’s sense of identity is being submerged in those depths, with an already greatly debilitated Mercury chained to his leg. We have one more player in the mix: Mars looks upon this scene with disdain, the acid trip of a conjunction interfering with his ability to get things done, especially since this soldier currently takes his orders from Mercury. However, the aspect Mars is making is called a square, a hostile and uncomfortable relationship to be sure, but also a highly-motivating one. Some may feel called to fight through the haze in order to be productive. One is reminded of the hallucinogen-fueled Berserker vikings, and indeed, partaking of the bizarre powers of the Sun-Mercury-Neptune conjunction may be a necessary element to any efforts to advance this week.

There is another square which has been building these past few days, and that is the tense connection between Venus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn, which speaks to issues of power and control, and to unexamined impulses surrounding what we are drawn to. This contentious array will dialogue with the previously-discussed contentious array; Venus will be sextile Mars which Sun-Mercury-Neptune will be sextile Pluto. Efforts to persevere will be blessed with a modicum of grace, while surrender to the currents of interconnectedness may yield discoveries we did not know we were seeking, much like the deep revelations that can accompany therapeutic use of hallucinogens.

These aspects continue to build in tension today, but culminate and become exact on Thursday, 3/16. The Sun, Mercury and Neptune will be conjunct at 25 degrees Pisces, Mars will be an 25 degrees Gemini, Venus at 29 degrees Aries, Pluto at 29 degrees Capricorn. Something strange and incredible may happen here: Mercury is in the sign he performs most poorly in, is being blotted out by the Sun’s light, and is being further drowned out by Neptune. Yet, because he will be in a state known as cazimi – visible in the heart of the Sun – he may be the secret hero of the day. As I wrote in my Pisces Season piece, “Here, the least likely actor may make the most stirring speech: Mercury sits in a condition known as cazimi, speaking loudly and clearly from within the Sun’s heart. This feels like the beaten-down finding a voice.”

The following day, on Venus’ Day (Friday, 3/17,) Venus will enter Taurus, one of the places she performs optimally. While Venus in Aries had to treat poise like a weapon, one that required practice and maintenance to properly wield, Venus in Taurus luxuriates in effortless sensuality. Things are a little different this time though, as Venus will immediately make a conjunction to both Juno and the North Node upon entering her domicile. Juno is an asteroid associated with commitment, and it may be that some of the delights we wish to partake in require us to meet certain conditions. The North Node, meanwhile, is a point of manifestation, a horn of plenty, but some say that its gifts are poisoned by delusion and dependency when taken too far. A square to the Moon in Aquarius may signal discomfort, an unwelcome factor, but a more harmonious aspect to Saturn should assist with any necessary grounding or boundary setting.

Then on Saturday (3/18,) the powers of communication strike back. Mercury enters Aries late that night, and while it is not one of Mercury’s homes, he’s likely to be much more effective here at clearly and concisely disseminating facts than he has been in Pisces. Here, he’s more of a Hemingway or Hunter S. Thompson, a mighty editing machete ensuring an economy of language through short, punchy bursts. There is a danger here of being overly bellicose, as a warlike Mercury may spoil for a good debate, but it’s still a grand improvement, especially given the mutual reception. Basically, Mars in Gemini is in charge of Mercury in Aries, and Mercury in Aries is in charge of Mars in Gemini. The two watch each other’s backs in a strong and effective combination. The only thing putting a damper on things is that Mercury is still weakened by being under the beams of the Sun. More on that later.

Sunday (3/19) sees the moon pass over Saturn on his day, possibly conveying somber reminders of responsibility or otherwise putting a damper on good moods. Monday (3/20) sees the Sun at his anaretic degree, and may leave some feeling sluggish or brain-fogged. Here, however, the sextile to Pluto becomes exact, and it may open opportunities to deeper aspects of self, to veins of ore that represent personal power and agency, to greater control over our own narrative.

Lastly, Tuesday (3/21) is both the Sun’s ingress into Aries (his exultation) and the New Moon in Aries. These matters will be covered more extensively in my forthcoming write-up on Aries Season, but for now, some brief remarks and observations. The Sun’s overflowing corona is focused into a laser here in Aries, a battering ram which can breach any fortress with a toothy grin and a bright personality. This is a brief summation of why the Sun performs optimally in this Mars-ruled sign. The astrological community puts a lot of fanfare on the Sun’s entry into Aries, for it begins the zodiacal year, and predictions for the year ahead often accompany the Aries Ingress chart. That a new moon coincides with this Aries ingress seems particularly significant, especially with the new moon’s rep as a “chapter beginning.” We have here a unity of ego and id, of consciousness and emotional self, both in service of the hitlist of goals that lie before us.

Well, my remarks were less brief than intended. This may just get copypasta’d into the next piece, we’ll see!

Until next Hump Day!

Hump Day Transits 3/8/23 – 3/14/23

Yesterday’s Full Moon in Virgo may have created pressures which could make a person fall back into comfort areas – dogmas, fandoms, enjoyable excess – and which may see others striving ahead into unfamiliar horizons. We are also all still settling into Saturn in Pisces, freshly ingressed the day of the full moon and creating plenty of new perspectives on pressure in his own right.

There are many ways to think of Saturn’s new placement in Pisces, and we’ll have three years to figure out how to navigate its currents. I previously wrote about it as a fish ladder, an element put into place to help us control the natural world. Taxonomies of nature would also fall under this purview, and I think it is equally apt to think of Saturn in Pisces as the structures which naturally occur in the world, which we can only happen upon and correlate with similar structures of the great expanse. Applying this to our inner world will likely be on offer and recommended during Saturn’s stay in Pisces.

That aside, this week is largely colored by other activity in Pisces. There, the Sun creeps closer to Neptune while Mercury edges closer to Sol’s obscuring beams. A little on this from my Pisces Season piece: “The end of the Sun’s time in Pisces sees it drawing closer to Neptune…this means that an already very fluid, porous sense of self is going to pass through a giant ocean of the mythic and fantastic. Neptune is the collective unconscious, the great sea of dreams and nightmares, and celestial objects passing through its sphere of influence seem to undergo massive distortion. What’s more, Mercury will have begun to really catch up to the Sun by this time, its voice getting more and more drowned out as it gets further ‘under the beams,’ finally reaching a state known as combustion where the Sun is said to devour its power. This may feel reminiscent of a Mercury retrograde to some; communication may become difficult, brains may become foggier, technology may cease to function.”

This aspect will tighten gradually throughout the week, and its effects may be felt gradually, as well. More on this as the conjunction perfects next week.

We also still have the big pile-up in Aries to consider. Venus has moved on from her conjunction with Jupiter and Chiron, but is locking into a square with Mars that will be exact on Saturday, 3/11. This may cause friction between actions and values, and may also may cause extra sensitivity in matters of relationship. But squares inspire movement too, and in many ways this is a “shit or get off the pot” type of transit. Venus and Mars are opposites, one asking us to connect, the other asking us to sever. Here, they are in conflict, and some may find that spilling into their lives.

Meanwhile, Jupiter and Chiron are still conjunct, which might leave many with their insecurities and trauma around self-betterment and empowerment laid bare. On the same day that Venus and Mars make their exact square, Jupiter will be in a particle conjunction with two asteroids: wounded Chiron, yes, but also with Vesta. Vesta shows us that our efforts to improve and grow don’t have to be displayed on a leaderboard somewhere, don’t have to be publicized, don’t even really need to be understood by others. Your gifts are for you and for others like you, and your life may be immeasurably improved by making space in your life for an interest or activity that those closest to you do not care for. They don’t have to. It’s sacred to YOU.

Until next Hump Day!

Hump Day Transits 3/1/23 – 3/6/23

We begin with a couple of powerful conjunctions and end with a full moon on Tuesday. I’m OOO at the mo and I have already written about these things extensively in my Pisces Season piece, so I’m just going to do a bit of copy-paste today.

On the current conjunction of Jupiter, Chiron, and Venus:

“Jupiter’s currently in Aries, which may see some being pulled into more dynamic, active sections of their lives, places which prize their personal power and agency. Jupiter has some interesting activity during this time, most notable being his long conjunction to Chiron,…which will only begin to dissipate around the end of March. Chiron is an asteroid which primarily represents insecurities, and Jupiter’s expansive nature may unfortunately exacerbate painful and uncomfortable feelings for some, especially as concerns capability. But Chiron makes our wounds itch as it heals them, and Jupiter is known as the Great Benefic, so this may be a period where many work through such issues.

And that’s not all! Venus will join this party around 2/26, her conjunction to Jupiter becoming exact to Jupiter on 3/2, then to Chiron on 3/3…suffice it to say that issues around the power of beauty and femininity, as well as the ability to connect with others, things in this realm are more likely to loom larger in this time.”

Furthermore, though Venus is not in her best condition and Chiron adds an uncomfortable layer, this is still a conjunction of two benefics. There is potential for splendor and awe here, for beauty on a grand scale. And being that it’s in Aries, a brash and impulsive sign, it will make itself known.

Some may put themselves, or find themselves thrust into situations of humiliation due to these conditions.

Moving on to the Mercury-Saturn conjunction:

“On 3/2 (the same day as the Venus-Jupiter conjunction,) Mercury will be exactly conjunct Saturn in it hits anaretic degree, though the conjunction will begin to click into orb sooner than that, around 2/28. Mercury’s winged-feet are heavier under Saturn’s influence, though as a consequence, his truths are usually more dense and cutting as well, a heavy scythe wielded with surgical precision. Mercury represents the young and Saturn the old, and interesting results are birthed from this combination. I most often think of a Maron-esque stand-up comic, turning grief into levity without letting you forget its weight. There is satire at play under this combination. Mercury’s psychopomp status is at play here too; he’s the last planet to touch Saturn in Aquarius before it “passes on,” ferrying it on across the sign boundary into Pisces.

Of course, Mercury will lead the charge on that front. He enters Pisces later that very night, on 3/2. Mercury doesn’t do so great in Pisces. It’s almost like that great, surging torrent of emotional experience that we mentioned at the top of this piece is…I don’t know, hard to sum up in a report? Like it’s hard to express the ineffable? Like you’re trying to do a book report on Encyclopedia Brittanica?I’ve found that it can be good for songwriters and fantastical storytellers, those who favor the dream-reason of the poetic over the actual-reason of the good journalist.

Lastly, the Full Moon in Virgo on Tuesday evening:

“The Full Moon in Virgo is on 3/6 (though it technically becomes exact the following morning around 7:30 a.m.) That same day, Saturn’s makes its ingress into Pisces. Mars will have already begun locking into a square with Neptune that will color the last half of the solar month, denoting that efforts to knock things off of one’s hitlist are likely to run into fogs of confusion, delay, that more enticing distractions will be on offer. These may also take the form of various substances that look like they’d be fun to abuse. Mars will also be casting squares to the Sun and Moon here, creating an aspect pattern which is classed a T-Square. The result is that this lunation is more likely to be colored by the Sagittarian: by wild, colorful displays and personalities, by institutional dogma, by excess and fixation on one subject or activity, by the raucous gatherings of inebriated centaurs. Your mileage may vary. This full moon also occurs in near-exact trine to Uranus, so some big surprises and revelations may be in store.

Saturn’s ingress into Pisces will be next Wednesday morning, so we’ll pick up there next time. Until next Hump Day!
